Skands Campground Terms and Conditions

At Skands Campground, we're not just in the business of camping; we're in the business of making memories to last for generations. To keep the good times rolling and ensure everyone has a wonderful camping experience, we've got a few ground rules to follow. These policies aren't just about having fun; they're about keeping the harmony intact for our cherished guests, staff, our local community, and even our local wildlife neighbours.

Reservations and Occupancy

  1. Full payment is required at the time of booking, and no exceptions will be granted.

  2. Campsite permit holders must be at least 19 years of age.

  3. Check-in time for Campsites and Moorage is 2:00 p.m. Check-out time is 11:00 a.m. 

  4. Check-in time for our Trailer Rental sites is 4:00 p.m. Check-out time is 11:00 a.m.

  5. Early check-in must be approved by Guest Services before arrival.

  6. Unless your reservation specifies otherwise, each campsite is allowed one shelter (tent, trailer, motor home, or camper van).

  7. There are a maximum of 2 adults and 5 children per site. Registered campers may have day guests for an additional fee payable at the time of their guest’s arrival.

  8. To lock in a specific site number, there is a lock fee payable at the time of booking. If you opt not to lock in your site, we guarantee you the reserved site type, however, we cannot guarantee a specific site number. (Note: the lock fee is waived for 2024).

  9. The permit holder is responsible for the conduct and behaviour of their family and guests.

  10. Before changing campsites, guests must obtain approval from Guest Services. The change is subject to site availability and must be arranged in advance.

  11. The campground management retains the authority to deny entry to any individual or pet without prior notice or specific cause.

  12. This is a family campground. Management may refuse services to any individual for breaches of campground policies, disruptive conduct, impolite or aggressive behaviour towards fellow guests or staff, making threats, or causing disturbances. To protect our campers, trespassers will be prosecuted.

 

Cancellations

  1. Cancellations can be made online at RESERVATIONS or by emailing reservations@skands.ca. Cancellation requests received after 5 p.m. will be deemed to be received the following day.

  2. If cancellation is made 30 days or more in advance of the reservation start date, guest will incur a $50 cancellation fee.

  3. If cancellation is made 15-29 days in advance of the reservation start date, guest will receive a 50% refund.

  4. If cancellation is made 8-14 days in advance of the reservation start date, guest will receive a 25% refund.

  5. No refunds are provided for cancellations made less than 8 days in advance of the reservation start date.

  6. Refunds or credits will not be issued in cases of bad weather. We’re open rain or shine!

  7. In this post-pandemic landscape, you accept that you are traveling at your own risk knowing fully that travel restrictions and provincial changes can be made any time. If any changes are made municipally, provincially, or federally that prevent you from travelling you accept that our standard cancellation policy still applies.

Site Policies

  1. Skands Campground is a family-oriented campground. We kindly request that all visitors conduct themselves in a courteous and respectful manner

  2. We request that all music be turned off between 10:00 pm and 8:00 am. We do not permit loud music at any time.

  3. We observe quiet time from 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., and our campground enforces a no-excessive noise policy around the clock to maintain a peaceful atmosphere for all our guests.

  4. Visitors to your site must be off-site by 10:00 p.m. The permit holder is responsible for his or her guests.

  5. Generators must be turned off between the hours of 11:00 pm and 8:00 am

  6. Any after-hours emergencies can be referred to our Campground Manager at 250-880-0093. In the case of an acute health emergency, please call 911.

  7. Anyone who fails to comply with campground policies will be required to vacate the property immediately without a refund.

  8. Skands Campground is not responsible for any loss of or damage to any personal or private property. Please keep all valuables stored and locked away.

 

Fires

  1. Fires within sites must be only permitted within propane fire bowls.

  2. All fires must adhere to all local fire regulations and fire bans.

  3. Fires at the communal fire pit (on the lawn next to the beach) must be monitored by an adult.

  4. Fire bowls or fire pits are not to be used for burning garbage.

  5. Please only use CLEAN firewood at the Communal Fire Pit (no metals, nails, paint, stains or other chemicals). 

 

Pets

  1. Limit of 2 pets per campsite.

  2. There is no charge for pets, but they must be registered at time of booking or check-in.

  3. Pets of camper’s guests are not permitted.

  4. Pets are not permitted on the front lawn and are not permitted on the main beach, however, there is a pet beach area at the end of Johnson Road.

  5. Pets are permitted in all sites except sites with Skands Campground Rental RVs

  6. Only pets that are friendly and up to date with their vaccinations are permitted on the property.

  7. Pets must be leashed at all times while on Skands Campground Property.

  8. Guests are required to confirm that their pet/dog has not exhibited any previous aggressive behaviour towards other animals or humans

  9. We kindly request your cooperation in refraining from leaving your pet unattended in your site for extended periods. 

  10. Pets should not be left unattended in vehicles during hot weather, as it poses a risk to their well-being. In such cases, emergency services may be contacted to ensure their safety.

  11. Excessive barking, aggressive behaviour, or causing disturbances by pets that disrupt other guests or campground staff will not be tolerated.

  12. Pet owners are required to promptly clean up after their pets, ensuring proper disposal of pet waste. This includes all areas of Skands Campground, adjacent streets, and the designated Dog Beach.

 

Vehicles

  1. All vehicles must be registered at Guest Services with their license plate numbers. 

  2. Our campground is family-friendly, and for the safety of our little campers, a strict speed limit of 5 km/h is enforced throughout our property. Please drive with caution and be mindful of children at play.

  3. Your paid registration covers one motor vehicle unless your reservation states otherwise. Additional motor vehicles must be parked off-site. 

  4. Parked vehicles must not impede traffic on the campground roadways.

  5. Vehicles cannot be parked in unassigned sites.

  6. The use of dirt bikes or ATVs is prohibited on Skands Campground property.

  7. The Kootenay Regional District does not permit parking on the asphalt of the surrounding roadways.

 

Beach 

  1. Fires of any sort are strictly prohibited on the beach, as enforced by local bylaws. Violation of this rule may result in being required to vacate Skands Campground.

  2. We ask that all guests clean up after themselves to ensure our beautiful beach stays clean and preserved.

  3. Smoking is not permitted on the front lawn, docks, or beach areas.

  4. Glass containers are not permitted on the beach and front lawn area - please use plastic or other non-glass containers for drinks.

 

Swimming Area

  1. Enjoy the beach and front lawn area from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., and the swim dock from 7:00 a.m. until dusk. These areas are off-limits at all other times.

  2. For your safety, please be aware that there is no lifeguard on duty at the beach. All swimmers should exercise caution and swim at their own risk. Skands Campground assumes no liability for swimming activities. Enjoy the water responsibly.

  3. Diving off the docks is prohibited for safety reasons.

  4. Swimmers must stay within the designated swimming area boundaries and keep a safe distance from the boat docks.

  5. Refrain from pushing or shoving on the Swim Dock. Guests who do not adhere to this policy may face restrictions from using the swim dock.

  6. Children should be supervised by an adult while in the water. 

  7. Swimming and fishing are not permitted from the boat docks.

  8. Fishing is not permitted within the swimming area.

  9. For the protection of our beautiful lake and the environment, we kindly ask that you refrain from sinking any garbage, aluminum cans, or bottles into the water. Please make use of the designated central waste area or dispose of your waste responsibly at your campground.  

 

Boat Moorage

  1. All boat owners must pay applicable moorage fees for the duration of their stay.

  2. Advance reservations may be mandatory for securing moorage space during peak periods. Please see the website for reservation information here. 

  3. Adherence to designated check-in and check-out times is required for efficient use of moorage facilities.

  4. Vessels should use dock cleats and fenders to protect both vessels and moorage facilities.

  5. Kindly refrain from leaving personal belongings on the dock

  6. Proper procedures and locations for waste disposal, including sewage and trash, must be followed.

  7. No open flames, including grills, on or near boat moorage areas to ensure safety.

  8. Responsible and eco-friendly practices must be followed to minimize environmental impact, such as preventing fuel spills.

  9. You must operate your boat dead-slow within moorage areas to prevent wake damage and ensure safety.

 

Garbage and Food Waste

  1. Please use our garbage, recycling and compost services. 

  2. Cleaning fish on Skands Campground property is strictly prohibited. All fish must be cleaned and the remains properly disposed of before your return to the campground. This policy is in place to prevent any fish or garbage odours in individual campsites, which can attract bears and pose a significant danger to all campers. Your cooperation is essential in maintaining a safe and enjoyable camping environment.

  3. Campsites must be maintained in a clean and food-scrap-free condition. Our campground shares its surroundings with bears, and it is crucial to remember that a fed bear is a dead bear. 

  4. For the safety of our guests and the local wildlife, our dedicated staff will promptly remove any unattended food or garbage items that are not stored in a vehicle or other secure location.
